Text Box: Pond Fishing Results

On January 29 the Angler's Club held the second and last event in that category.  It was a hot day and expectations were not high.  In fact the contingent of women nearly beat the men.  We had Vicki Dietrich, Dee Poletti, Barbara Pfeiffer, Judy Carrino and Arlene Glesne.  They were joined by Messrs Carrino, Fowler, Klowden, Sandstrom, Scalia, Stevens and Toner.  Three bass were caught that day, all in the estates pond.  The first and what a thrill it was came from Barb Pfeiffer who caught a bass on her first cast in the estates pond.  She was using a pole with one of my lures called a chug bug.  Barbara had miscast the lure and it land close to an overhanging tree.  She started reeling and splash as the fish came out from under the tree and swallowed the lure.  See pictures of Barb and her prize bass.  The only down side was the very next cast the lure landed in the tree where it still sits.

Bill Scalia caught two bass and his note tome was that one measured 21 1/2 inches and the other one was bigger but not measured.  Bill estimated it to be 24 inches.  Gerry also caught a 1 ½ - 2 pounder in the same pond.

For the two days of pond fishing the results were Gerry Stevens 4 bass (largest 24 1/2 inches as measured by Captain Hal), Ron Klowden 3 bass and one snook measuring 24 1/2 inches to the tip of the tail, Bill Scalia 2 bass with largest estimated at 24 inches, and Barb Pfeiffer with one bass.  The total for the two days was ten bass and one snook plus other smaller species of sunfish and specks.

For those of you who still want to fish the ponds, pick your day carefully.  Overcast skies are best.  I have fished the ponds with a friend from Vero and Donn. and have caught bass consistently.  Two of my trips resulted in four bass being caught.  Ponds that have produced fish are those near holes 3,5,9,10,11, and 17.

Good Luck and Good Fishing
