ROUND ONE OF POND FISHING
On Tuesday, November 25, the first round of pond fishing was held. The turnout was small; there were just three anglers. Captain Hal, Ron Klowden and I had a great afternoon although it would have been better had Hal been able to land a fish.
Ron started out the afternoon with a small snook. I followed that with a lunker large mouth that jumped at least four times. The fish measured 23 ½ inches and weighed an estimated 9+ pounds (Donn’s best guess). By the end of the day we had fished four different locations. The final tally was three bass for Gerry and Ron landing four bass (all in the 4-5 pound range), two snook (one was 23 ½ inches from nose to tip of tail), and lastly a 15+ pound catfish. The catfish took Ron at least 25 minutes to land and boy was he tired. We were hoping it was a snook but it never came to the surface until about three feet from shore.
The final round is scheduled for Thursday, January 29. After the two days of fishing are totaled, there will be a prize for the biggest and most fish caught covering three species (trout, snook and tarpon). By the way, there were at least 3 sightings of large tarpon in our ponds. Let’s see if we can get more anglers fishing our ponds! Gerry Stevens
